September is National Food Safety Month

National Food Safety Month was created in 1994 to heighten the awareness about the importance of food safety education. This year’s theme is “Notorious Virus” and will explore how to protect your customers from some of the leading causes of foodborne illness- Norovirus and Hepatitis A. Food safety, by definition, is a scientific discipline describing handling, preparation, and storage of food in ways that prevent foodborne illness. This includes a number of routines that should be followed to avoid potentially severe health hazards.

The National Restaurant Association has downloadable weekly activities, posters and infographics to keep your staff informed and engaged. Weekly training activity areas communicate concepts clearly and quickly to employees, and can be completed in less than 10 minutes. Don’t forget to join the conversation on social media by using #NFSM and #NotoriousVirus.
